Traditional Kitchens
It was not unknown for us to creep out after dark with a step ladder to take rubbings of traditional ventilation holes in shutters or peek through windows to make sketches of original panel mouldings (Katie Fontana, Creative Director)Such a close, occasionally unorthodox eye for detail is reflected in the traditional kitchen designs that Katie Fontana has created for Plain English since the company began. The front panel detail of the company’s pull-out crockery drawers was modelled on a 19th century butler’s plate bucket, seen in an auction at Sotheby’s and moulds of original Georgian handles were used to design the brass swan’s neck drawer pulls.
Plain English’s traditional kitchen designs are made by hand in Suffolk from sustainable materials.
